They arrive in the very late morning, with the sun high in the sky, and wispy clouds on the horizon. [08:16] <`Doc> Approaching the city by land, it appears at first to be no more than a small farming town. As the group begins to pass through the city, it becomes apparent that many of Malthazar's outlying districts have been developed to resemble independent small towns, though each lies within moments' walking distance of its neighboring districts. [08:16] <`Doc> ========= 4FREE ROLEPLAY ========= [08:16] * Taylen is now known as Marigold [08:17] * Gil looks around. "At least it's not as imposing as Terranada." [08:18] "I hope they have a decent market, though. We need to stock up on fresher goods." [08:18] * Marigold looks around with wide eyes [08:18] <`Doc> Mirra looks around at the neat little rows of houses. She seems fairly comfortable. The mercenaries look like they've been here before. "So, where do you want to go first, ladies and gentlegnome?" Kerjak asks with a bit of showmanship in his tone. [08:18] "I've never seen a place like this before, but I haven't been to many cities. Is this normal?" [08:18] * Pair snorts as she looks arond "This place looks selly if you ask me... it's like 5 bard story into one... not making much sence... let's find us a ship shall we?" [08:19] * Gil shakes his head. "It's unusual, as far as I know. Vista's a lot... more city-like, I suppose." [08:20] * Marigold nods and continues staring around ehr nervously [08:20] "But yes, we should find a ship. As soon as we start getting that ready, we can have a base here for any activities we need to undertake in this place." [08:21] "Yeah and get out of here as soon as we can." [08:21] "I just wana know when our ship leaves, then we can see to learking in this place... making me uneasy for some odd reason" [08:21] <`Doc> "Alrighty, to the ports then," Kerjak leads the way, letting Cedric take a break from the task. Cedric mingles into the group. "Actually, most of the eastern cities are like this. They started out small, and spread out a patch at a time." [08:21] "We need to sell these collected equipment bundles, and we need to book passage. Does anyone else have anything they need to do?" [08:23] <`Doc> Meebie sicks her head out of the wagon, "Hi?" [08:23] * Gil smiles at Meebie. "Hello! Do you want anything from the city?" [08:24] <`Doc> "Dunno," Meebie's head swivels like a lighthouse beakon. [08:24] * Marigold wanders over to walk near Mirra and stares around her trying to shrink away from the buildings [08:25] * Gil chuckles. "Well, you can feel free to look around - but try to keep out of sight. People here are weird about some things like that." [08:26] <`Doc> "Okay," Meebie's head burrows again. [08:26] "Once we get the boat ready, we'll get you settled in there with some friends." [08:26] * Pair go's next to Kerjak "Tell me, is there a big publick place? for all the city?" [08:27] <`Doc> "Just ahead," [08:27] <`Doc> "Just ahead," Kerjak replies, gesturing down a wide road that seems to go on for a bit. [08:27] <`Doc> Deep in the city's heart, on the land that was once the original settlement, the group finds the city's main docks district. Built to house and accommodate large trading ships, the docks themselves are always well maintained, though not necessarily well policed. All manner of folk, both reputable and otherwise, may be found working in or around the various warehouses of the district. [08:28] <`Doc> <> [08:28] * Marigold2 has joined #yl1000 [08:28] * Pair mindlessly make sure her purse and bags are secure [08:28] * Agaven has joined #YL1000 [08:28] * Pair go's next to Kerjak "Tell me, is there a big publick place? for all the city?"Pve trying to log in, but it's not letting him on [08:29] never mind [08:29] * Marigold2 taps Mirra's arm "Is your city like this?" [08:29] <> [08:31] * Marigold has quit IRC (Ping timeout) [08:31] * Marigold2 is now known as Marigold [08:31] <`Doc> There's a bustle to this part of the city, as workmen move cartfuls of crates and barrels, vendors shout from their stalls, and people in general make their way through the district. [08:31] * Gil looks around. "The dock districts are never wonderful places. We'll probably be rather out of sight and mind here, but be careful not to be alone anywhere." [08:31] * Agaven peers about. [08:32] * Pair sniffs the air "Berk, I been to places like this Befor... want me to find us a Captain?" [08:33] * Marigold guess mirra didn't hear her and goes back to staring at the buildings [08:33] * Gil nods. "If you know the way, feel free to follow it. We need to book a passage to Desoto, preferrably without having to charter a ship ourselves." [08:34] <`Doc> "That might be helpful," Cedric nods. [08:35] <`Doc> Mirra turns to Marigold, "Weren't you at Eneri before?" [08:35] <`Doc> <> [08:35] * Pair steps up, looking for one them barfoot sailors, profably a first mate looking type, they usaly stand out bit, there working yet pushing othere sailors arond [08:36] * Marigold tries to remember and shakes ehr head "I think thats the one where they left me outside." [08:37] * Gil chuckles. "We didn't leave you. You wanted to stay with the goblins, and we only needed supplies, so we weren't about to drag you into the city. It'd be cruel." [08:37] <`Doc> "Mystical powders!" a merchant shouts. "Cure what ails you! Grow inches where it counts! Finest ingredients from across the sea!" [08:37] Or that [08:37] * Agaven runs her fingers through the hair, and thinks a moment, watching the cityscape. [08:37] "If it was like this I'm glad you left me outside, big places make me very nervous." [08:38] dieroll 1d20 for that wis check [08:38] * Diceaholic --> "Pair rolls 1d20 for that wis check and gets 20." [08:38] * Gil shrugs. "Eneri was pretty, if tough to navigate. We kept getting lost there." [08:38] * Agaven grins evilly, "Shall we make ourselves popular?" [08:39] "I really don't see how you can stand these places." [08:39] <`Doc> "Oh, okay," Mirra thinks for a moment. "The area when we first got here is kinda like Eneri, though people here are more organzied." She looks around warily at the bustling docks, "We have nothing like this though, and thank goodness. It's too crowded here." [08:40] * Gil shrugs. "Remind me to take you to a concert some time. The city isn't wonderful for its size or population, so much as what those two things make possible." [08:40] "When everyone's together like this, people can pay small amounts to make incredible stuff happen." [08:40] * Agaven turns on her heel and starts in the direction of the snake-oil salesman. [08:41] "Can I pay them a little to be quiet and go way?" [08:41] * Gil blinks. [08:41] "It doesn't quite work like that...Agaven, where are you going?" [08:42] "Making friends and influencing people, m'dear." [08:42] * Agaven walks up to the hawker [08:43] "but you said I could pay small amounts to make increadible stuff happen, this is an increadible amount of people and noise so it follows that getting them to be quiet and go away would be an increadiable thing." [08:43] <`Doc> Agaven: "Well hello fine lady, what can Marvolo's Magics do for you today?" [08:44] * Marigold mumbles "make it quiter" [08:44] * Gil sighs, and eases the cart to a halt. "It's more along the lines of coherent action. Like ants building an anthill, only... big." [08:44] * Marigold makes darting glances now, no longer staring but trying to hide [08:45] "The ship will be more isolated... if we can ever make it there." [08:45] <`Doc> Mari: You feel a hand on your shoulder. [08:45] "Why, hello good sir! You sell healing magics, miboy?" [08:45] * Marigold jumps and whirls around [08:45] <`Doc> Aga: "I sell near enough to everything, milady," the merchant grins. [08:46] * Marigold eyes are wider than should be possible [08:46] <`Doc> Mari: The hand belongs to... um... <> [08:46] "Fantastic! May I peruse some of these wonder-products?" [08:46] dieroll 1d20+2 [08:46] * Diceaholic --> "Marigold rolls 1d20+2 and gets 6." [08:47] * Marigold flattens her ears back [08:49] <`Doc> Agaven: "Most certainly," the merchant pulls out a small rack of vials from under his counter, and gestures over them. "Here we have a fine assortment of cures and curiosities. Mix this powder into your ale," he says, lifting a vial, "and you can drink any sailor under the table. This one," he swaps vials, "will heal even the most stubborn infection in days, and this, well," he sets the vial down and taps the cork of another, "will let you make a man out of any shy young lad." [08:50] * Marigold starts to growl low in her throat [08:50] <`Doc> Mari: Whoever's hand was on your shoulder, you can't find them. Which is odd, because the hand is still there. [08:50] <> [08:50] <`Doc> Aga: ..."will let you make a man out of any shy young lad." [08:51] * Marigold whips back and forth looking for the source of the hand [08:51] <`Doc> Mari: "Relax, Mari," a voice says. It sounds familiar, but like the hand, you can't place its owner. <> [08:52] dieroll 1d20 [08:52] * Diceaholic --> "Marigold rolls 1d20 and gets 7." [08:52] <`Doc> Mari: This is a really bad time for someone to pull a prank on you. [08:53] * Marigold hisses and growls a bit louder, bristling [08:53] <> [08:54] <`Doc> Agaven: He gestures over the rest of the vials, enumerating cures for all sorts of odd ailments, powders to make a man stronger or a woman more lithe, and other various items. <> [08:54] <`Doc> <> [08:54] dieroll 1d20+7 [08:54] * Diceaholic --> "Gil rolls 1d20+7 and gets 24." He may be just as nervous as Marigold, but his demeanor doesn't seem jumpy at all. He' [08:56] <> [08:56] <`Doc> Gil: He's just blending in, to the point where you have to look twice to be sure he's there. [08:56] <`Doc> <> [08:57] dieroll 1d20+10 knowledge: arcana, regarding the items. [08:57] * Diceaholic --> "Agaven rolls 1d20+10 knowledge: arcana, regarding the items. and gets 27." [08:57] <`Doc> Agaven: You can't be sure about everything, but at least some of these powders don't look right. It seems like the only instant ones are the one to keep you sober and the one to make a man out of a molehill. [08:57] * Gil calls down to Marigold. "Come up here, on to the cart with me, if the crowds are making you jumpy. It's nice to have a high-level view." [08:57] * Marigold jumps unto the cart literally [08:58] <`Doc> dieroll 1d20 [08:58] * Diceaholic --> "`Doc rolls 1d20 and gets 5." [08:58] <`Doc> The mercenaries seem perfectly comfortable here. They trail behind the group discussing something or other. [08:59] * Gil lightly pats Marigold's shoulder while holding the reins with his other hand. "It's okay - I wouldn't want to be down there, either. Only it's because someone would step on me. They always do..." [08:59] * Marigold huddles in the cart [09:00] <`Doc> Agaven: Giving a couple of the vials a closer look, you recognize one of them as a popular placebo. The red powder in that particular vial is little more than crumbled dry clay. [09:00] <`Doc> Puppy looks up at the back of the cart longingly. The junk pile rustles. [09:01] * Agaven smiles innocently at the man, "May I have a demonstration?" [09:02] * Marigold looks at puppy then at the mercs "Someone help puppy into the cart." [09:03] <`Doc> Agaven: The vendor leans in, lifting the vial of man-making powder, and waggles his eyebrows, "Would you like to step into the back?" [09:03] * Marigold calms some being further from the people and looks over at what Agaven is up to [09:03] * Gil sighs. "I'm sorry for the delay, but we don't want to get separated here. Without a place to call a meeting point, anyone getting pulled off now would be pretty terribly lost." [09:04] 'Aggy you gonna make a man out of pair?" [09:04] <`Doc> Cedric and Kerjak start clearing a place on the cart for Puppy. "Ow!" a little voice complains from under the junk piles. [09:04] * Pair turns to Mari "HEY!" and go's back to looking what she lookig for [09:05] * Agaven looks the hawker up and down [09:05] <`Doc> With the group distracted and Pair on a mission, she wanders away from the group, looking for a ship that might take them where they want to go. After a while, she locates a handsome-looking gentleman wearing a long overcoat, and shouting to crewmen up on the deck of a ship called the Misty Meadow. "Hurry up, you two, we have a schedule to keep!" [09:05] * Marigold giggles at pair "I don't think she'd look nearly as good as a man, can't we keep her as a woman." [09:07] * Gil sighs, and begins shifting equipment. "Sorry Meebie. We're just making room so that Puppy can come up here with you. Then you can spend some time with her!" [09:08] * Marigold smiles "Yeah puppy likes meebie" [09:08] * Agaven grins at the man, "Can Mari come too?" [09:09] * Pair walks up to the man, and even befor she is to him, she starts speaking "Thus, My man, this looks liek a fine ship, she is!" Giving a him a moment to look at her, she continue befor he speaks "Very fine, I'd be looking for a fine ship. me n'me mates, for a voyage to the docks of Desoto. Maybe a fine man like the likes of ya can help me little maiden I be?" [09:10] * Gil blinks. "Hey! I like Marigold just the way she is." [09:10] * Agaven gives the salesman another smile. [09:11] * Marigold giggles at Gil "Awww thats sweet" [09:12] * Gil shrugs with a smile. "Never trust a potion to do what's on the label. My uncle said it, my father ran by it, and I believe it. You never know what these streetside vendors are dealing in." [09:13] dieroll 1d20+9 (spellcraft) to attempt to assess the salesman's magical abilities, if any whatsoever. [09:13] * Diceaholic --> "Agaven rolls 1d20+9 (spellcraft) to attempt to assess the salesman's magical abilities, if any whatsoever. and gets 12." [09:13] * Marigold whistles to puppy once they clear a spot for her [09:14] <`Doc> ========= 4INCOMING DATA - PLEASE WAIT ========= [09:16] <`Doc> <> [09:16] <`Doc> Agaven: The man looks over at the shassan, then back to you. He smirks, "Contrary to popular belief, I'm not the sort that fantasizes about two beautiful women at once. [09:17] <`Doc> Puppy hops up into a small cleared space on the cart. After a moment of further junkpile shifting, a tiny arm reaches out to stroke the wolf's fur. [09:19] <`Doc> Agaven: "Though if she'd like to come in afterwards, I'm sure I can find another vial," he leans in and whispers the last bit in your ear. As for his magical talent or lack thereof, you can't really tell without seeing him try. You know the merchandise is probably fake, but as for the man himself, who can say. [09:23] <`Doc> Pair: The sailor in charge lets out a chuckle, then grins at you, "Ah, a pleasure to meet a travelled lass with a sense of humour and a keen eye. We're just back from a long voyage, and will be returning to our home port in Desoto in the morning. If you're looking for passage, we're certain to have the room." [09:23] <`Doc> ========= 4FREE ROLEPLAY ========= [09:24] * Marigold watches Agaven and the strange man curiously, calmer now but still sort of jumpy looking [09:25] * Gil leans over and lightly kisses Marigold on the cheek. "I personally try to avoid the 'sellers of novelty magics.' If you've never seen it before, it probably doesn't really work - or even exist, sometimes." [09:26] * Agaven smiles innocently up at the man, steps back, and grins, "show me some magic!" [09:26] * Pair grin to the man "Aaah, Good my luck it is! Very well, I shall fetch my group, our coinkeeper will talk to you about the fee! Do not worry, the gold will be good for you today!" takes a moment to bow just abit, verry stylish, but never leaving her charming eyes off the man "Thus they call me Pair, may you but honor me with ya Name, m'captain?" [09:27] * Marigold smiles and looks around for Mirra [09:27] <`Doc> Agaven: The man frowns a bit, and says in an obviously-fake irritated tone, "Young lady, I am not the sort of man who shows off his privates in public." [09:29] <`Doc> Pair: "A pleasure to meet you, Lady Pair, I'll await your prompt return. Watch it, Grak, that one's delicate!" he says, quickly turning around as a lizardman carrying a large crate bounces the gangplank with each step. [09:29] * Agaven grins wickedly, "Really now? You show me yours and I'll show you miine.." arching back and jiggling a bit, winking. [09:30] <`Doc> Mari: Mirra is standing with her back tight against the side of the cart, and her hands over her belongings. [09:30] * Pair raise coming back to her real accent "That still dont give me ya name ya know!" ^_^ [09:31] "Mirra come up here and sit, it looks like it will take awhile, aggy wants the weird powder man to do something." [09:31] "Or she wants to do the weird powder man." [09:31] "Never can tell." [09:32] <`Doc> Pair: "Haha! My apologies, Lady Pair. Business of the business, and all that. You may call me Bramon. Bramon Lestige, first mate of the Misty Meadow." [09:34] "THanks! see you soon!" *starts making her way back tot he group, sliping arond the crowd like a cat that just stole the last chiken wing* [09:38] <`Doc> Mirra glances briefly at the mercenaries, then up at Marigold. "I'm alright for now. Maybe a bit later, when we get moving." [09:38] * Marigold nods "Okay" [09:39] * Gil watches Agaven. "I hope we can at least secure some passage soon. Half of us either don't want to be here or really shouldn't be here, all things considered." [09:41] "I'm sorry I just get really nervous in cities, they are loud crowded and noisy, not enough plants around and people are much less predictable than the animals are. I feel much better off on the road or in the woods or even a rolling plain." [09:42] * Gil nods. "It's okay. Meebie, Robert, and even Agaven shouldn't be staying here anyways. Not to mention that I think getting on our way as soon as possible is just a good thing, because we have a long way to go." [09:43] <`Doc> Agaven: "Well now, well now, isn't that quite an offer. I thought you a more respectable lady than that, but if you're a souther looking to sell yourself, I suggest trying down the street at Mulligan's." [09:44] "Some time, when we have the time, I'll show you the better parts of cities. If you don't know what there is and where to look, all you see are tall people rushing from one place to another... without any care where they put their boot." [09:44] * Gil shakes his head. [09:44] "I don't really like any parts of cities, the buildings loom over me, the people are too noisy there are too many, and there is never enough of nature about." [09:46] * Gil shrugs. "As I said, it's not the cities themselves so much as what they make possible. Theatre, art, a bit of fine dining..." He smiles. [09:46] <`Doc> "If you're looking for someplace a little more rural," Cedric suggests, "I suggest taking a walk a little ways northward. A lot of the wealthier denizens keep their own gardens." [09:46] "Oh, can we go there?" [09:47] "Oh contraire, I do not believe you quite understand. I want to see your magic. Yon hocus pocus. Right now." [09:47] <`Doc> Cedric nods, "Once we liquidate our more cumbersome assets, I doubt we'll have any trouble." [09:47] * Gil looks around. "You know the city better than I do. Is it near the markets, or some other place to unload this pile of goods?" [09:47] "Aggy I don't think the weird man wants what you want." [09:48] "You DO have magic, don't you?" [09:49] "Oh oh aggy show him your magic" [09:50] * Gil chuckles. "You might as well. We'll pretty much have the day to ourselves. If you're looking to show the merchant up or something, just get a move on so we can actually find passage." [09:51] <`Doc> Agaven: The merchant looks genuinely taken aback, "You mean... oh dear deluded soul, I am merely the profferer of these fine wares. They come from far off lands across the seas and the mountains." He leans in and whispers sharply, "However, if you believe I will take your suggestion as a threat, I believe you will find the local denizens rather abruptly opposed to your presence." [09:54] "Hey Mirra, is there someone where you come from that could teach me to follow things?" [09:54] <`Doc> Pair: As you return to the group, you find most of them watching Agaven continue her odd haggling dance with the powder merchant. [09:54] * Agaven closes her eyes, murmuring softly for a moment, then opens them again with a golden glow (Prestidigitation), speaking softly. "Oh, no threats, my dear. Not by me, anyway." [09:55] * Pair sneaks behind Agaven, blinking and looking at what she is doing [09:55] <`Doc> Mirra looks up at Marigold, "To follow things? You mean hunter tracking? Oh yes, it's an important part of our culture." [09:56] "Would they be willing to teach me?" [09:57] <`Doc> Mari: "I expect so, if you have the time to spare. It took me almost a year to learn." [09:58] * Agaven speaks in a booming, magically amplified voice, "The only threat here, is the one you pose to these poor people--preying on their purses, and their health, with these false potions! Reconsider your life, conman." [09:58] * Marigold frowns "not sure we have a year though, and I really really want to learn." [09:58] * Gil sighs. "Oh gods..." [09:59] * Marigold jumps at the loud voice ears flattened again eyes wide [09:59] * Agaven makes the worthless items glow, "Behold! Not one of those items is true!" [09:59] * Pair eys open wide and a Large amused smile on her face, looking at the mans reaction [10:01] * Gil facepalms. "Must people always go and try to rout the conmen..."
